K-2 PIANO CLASSES

Piano classes at Impact Christian Academy are a fun and exciting way to experience playing the piano!

Designed especially for kindergarten through 2nd-grade students, this class introduces piano through short, engaging activities that match how young children learn. Students will build beginning piano skills while developing rhythm, listening, coordination, and musical confidence.

Students will learn:

• Keyboard Geography: Find groups of 2 and 3 black keys and locate notes such as Middle C.

• Finger Numbers: Learn and use finger numbers 1–5 for both hands.

• Beginning Technique: Practice proper sitting position, relaxed hands, and curved fingers.

• Rhythm: Recognize, clap, and play basic rhythms using quarter notes, half notes, whole notes, and rests.

• High & Low Sounds: Identify and play higher and lower pitches on the keyboard.

• Musical Alphabet: Learn the seven music-note names: A, B, C, D, E, F, and G.

• Beginning Note Reading: Start connecting notes on the page to keys on the piano.

• Right & Left Hand: Practice playing simple patterns and songs with each hand.

• Steady Beat: Learn to keep a consistent beat while playing alone and with the group.

• Dynamics: Understand and demonstrate basic musical concepts such as loud (forte) and soft (piano).

• Simple Songs: Learn short, age-appropriate melodies and gradually work toward playing complete beginner songs.

• Playing Together: Practice starting, stopping, listening, and performing as a piano ensemble.

The goal is for students to leave the class with a strong beginning foundation for future piano study while enjoying music and experiencing success at the keyboard.

Students will be able to play together, as well as work on their solo performance skills.  Piano classes prove that students enjoy working in a fun and relaxed environment, while being able to share the gift of music!
