Give your child the opportunity to learn piano in a fun, supportive group environment! Students will develop foundational piano skills while building confidence, creativity, and a love for music!
3rd–5th Grade Group Piano Class
The 3rd–5th Grade Group Piano Class helps students move beyond the basics and begin playing with greater independence, confidence, and musical understanding. Lessons combine keyboard technique, note reading, rhythm, theory, and ensemble playing in a way that is challenging but still fun and age-appropriate.
Students will learn:
Keyboard Fluency: Quickly locate notes across the keyboard and understand how the musical alphabet repeats.
Treble & Bass Clef Reading: Read beginning music in both clefs and connect written notes to the correct piano keys.
Rhythm & Counting: Perform quarter, half, whole, and eighth notes, rests, and increasingly complex rhythm patterns.
Hand Position & Technique: Develop stronger finger control, proper posture, curved fingers, and comfortable hand positions.
Playing with Both Hands: Begin coordinating the right and left hands together in songs and exercises.
Scales & Five-Finger Patterns: Learn basic five-finger patterns and introductory major scales.
Chords: Build and play simple major and minor chords and use them to accompany songs.
Musical Symbols: Understand markings such as dynamics, tempo, repeat signs, ties, slurs, and articulation.
Intervals: Recognize the distance between notes and use intervals to improve music reading.
Melody & Accompaniment: Play a melody in one hand while adding simple chords or patterns with the other.
Sight-Reading: Practice reading and playing short pieces students have not previously rehearsed.
Ear Training: Identify patterns, rhythms, and changes in pitch by listening.
Song Repertoire: Learn complete beginner and early-intermediate pieces in a variety of musical styles.
Ensemble Skills: Play with classmates while following tempo, listening to others, and staying together as a group.
Performance Skills: Practice preparing music for informal performances and build confidence playing in front of others.
By the end of the class, students should have a stronger understanding of how music works and be able to approach new piano music with greater independence.
